When setting up for video consultations, you will want to pay attention to some important facets in your environment.

Light

Make sure the room you are taking the call in is bright enough. You can check the quality in your local video. If you have a bright window behind you, you might need to get the blinds down or turn on the lights to shed more light on your face. A spotlight on your face can also help.

Noise

It's not easy to take calls in rooms with a lot of background noise. In such a situation, at minimum use a headset and use the microphone of that headset also. That at least exposes your audio better to your peers. You may want to further mute yourself while not speaking so as not to disturb the conversation of your peers.
