1. Web browser permissions

For Coviu to work on your web browser, you will need to allow the browser to access your audio and video sources when asked. Check if Coviu has been granted permission to access your camera, microphone and speaker by checking with your web browser Site settings to ensure that permission is set to Allow for Camera, Microphone and Sound.

In Chrome, this can be easily seen by clicking the padlock next to the website URL. Clicking here lists any site related information. If you are not seeing any of your sources here, head further by clicking Site settings to explore all site-related permissions to confirm and that the required sources are set to Allow.

2. Checking your macOS System Preferences: Security & Privacy

Finally, have a glance at the existing macOS level access to the camera and microphone that is granted to your web browser. Head to the Security & Privacy section of your mac System Preferences. Once there, check under the Privacy tab to then make sure the Camera and Microphone access is enabled for your chosen web browser to then make available for a call.

  • If you have a password set up on your Mac, click the Padlock on the bottom left of the window to unlock and then make changes under the same Privacy tab.
  • Ensure you have allowed your browser access to both your Camera and Microphone.

3. Checking your macOS System Preferences: Sound

Make sure that your device audio is not set to mute or an inaudible volume for a call. Open your macOS System Preferences usually found on your macOS Dock or by typing the same in the Spotlight Search function located at the top menu bar on your desktop. Once there, click the Sound icon, and then from there, ensure that both microphone & sound sources are picking up sound or audio under the Input and Output tabs.Mac OS system preferences

    • Under the Input tab, you can check if your selected microphone is actually picking up audio and has not been set to mute.
    • Under the Output tab, you can check if your selected sound source has been set to an audible volume or mute.
    • If you are not seeing your required external microphone, speaker, or headphones being listed here, ensure that they are still powered and connected to your device.

4. Getting back to your Coviu calls

Now you have looked at all the right places to check on your macOS device and your audio and video should start to work for calls!

You can return to Coviu, then check via the in-call Settings button from the bottom left corner after entering a room or session, to ensure that your camera, microphone and speaker sources have been assigned correctly by your web browser under the sections Select camera, Select microphone and Select speaker.

  • If you are seeing multiple sources listed or note that none have been assigned with a tick by your web browser, please make a selection for at least one source to be made available as the camera, microphone and speaker for a call.
