My Practice Management System (PMS) Won't Accept My Coviu Link
This article explains why some practice management systems reject a Coviu link, and how to fix it.
Note:
This issue is not caused by a fault with your Coviu account — it relates to how some practice management systems validate web links. On this page:
What's happening?
When pasting your Coviu Waiting Area, Reception, or User Room link into a practice management system during telehealth setup, you may see an error similar to:
- "There was an error updating the Coviu link, please try again", or
- a message stating the link isn't a valid web address.
This can happen even though the link works perfectly when you test it yourself.
Why does this happen?
Some PMS run their own validation check on any link you enter, and can reject links that don't match the website address format they expect (for example, requiring a www. prefix, or a specific domain structure).
Coviu's newer room links use the app.coviu.com domain. A small number of PMS haven't yet updated their validation rules to recognise this newer link format, so they incorrectly flag it as invalid — even though the link is genuine and fully functional.
How to fix it
If your PMS won't accept your app.coviu.com link, try the following options in order:
1. Use your subdomain-style Coviu link instead.
- This is your original Coviu link in the format https://[your-subdomain].coviu.com/join/[your-room-name].
- It goes to exactly the same place as your app.coviu.com link, so patients will still be taken to the correct Waiting Area, Reception, or User Room.
- If you're not sure what your subdomain link is, get in touch with our Customer Success team and we'll help you find it.
2. If your PM system still won't accept the link, try a shortened link.
- Use a link-shortening service (such as Bitly) to create a short link that redirects to your Coviu link, and enter that into your PM system instead.
