Taking patient / client notes in a Coviu call

This article describes how to use the Consultation Notes app in a Coviu video call.

  • Can my patient/client see or download my notes?
    • No, only you can see or download your notes.
  • Can I store my notes in Coviu?
    • No, you must download the notes prior to ending the call as there will be no option to retrieve them.
  • Can I create templates in the Notes app?
    • While that may be an option for future version of the Notes app, for now it is a text field with no option for templates and with limited formatting options.
  • Is there a voice-to-text option?
    • No.

What is the Consultation Notes app?

The Consultation Notes app allows you to take notes during your consultation to then download or copy across to a patient/client record in your PMS or EMR.

Having this field in Coviu means you do not need to jump back and forth between Coviu and other systems, so you can focus your attention on your patient or client.


How do I use it?

Using the Consultation Notes app is simple! Follow these steps:

  1. When you are in your call (with or without your patient or client), click the TAKE NOTES button toward the bottom right corner of the video call window. It will be to the right of the HELP option. Hover your mouse cursor over the buttons to reveal their name or action. See screen capture below.
  2. The Consultation Notes app will open in the menu on the right hand side of your screen. Click in the empty notes field and start typing.

How do I save or copy my notes?

NOTE: There is no option to store your notes within Coviu! If you end your call without saving or downloading the notes prior, there is no option to retrieve them.

Follow these instructions to save or download your notes:

  • You have two options prior to ending your call:
    • If you want to copy your notes directly into a patient or client file in another system:

      • Click the COPY TO CLIPBOARD option.
      • Navigate to the relevant field in the other system and click in it.
      • Use the 'paste' option for your particular operating system to paste the notes into the field.
      • Follow your normal process for that system to save the record.
      • Other options:
        • You may wish to copy the notes to paste into editing software such a Microsoft Word, where you can then format them as you see fit.
    • If you want to download and edit your notes later:

      • Click the DOWNLOAD NOTES option.
      • This will save the notes to a location on your computer as a text file.
      • NOTE: This is generally the DOWNLOADS folder on your computer but they may change based on your work environment.
      • If you wish to edit the notes, navigate to the file and open it. 
      • Use the editing options available to you in your default editor to format the text or;
      • Copy it across to a other editing software such as Microsoft Word. 
      • Upload the text or the file to your exiting PMS or EMR.
